words that struck a chord in me

the story- brandi carlile

All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don't mean anything
When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true, I was made for you
I climbed across the mountaintops
Travel across the ocean blue
I cross over lines and I broke all the rules
And baby I broke them all for you

Oh because even when I was flat broke
You made me feel like a million bucks
You do, I was made for you

You see the smile that's on my mouth
It's hiding the words that don't come out
All of the friends who think that I'm blessed
They don't know I'm in this mess
No they don't know who I really am
And they don't know what I've been through
Like you do, and I was made for you
All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am

Oh but these stories don't mean anything
When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true, I was made for you
Oh yeah, and it's true that I was made for you

a few nights back I got to watch Vikramaditya Motwane's UDAAN, after watching this movie, ever since then, i have been awestruck, and down right  fascinated and captivated by this awe-amazing-some piece of work. anyone who's reading this and haven't watched it should do that the first thing after reading my blog.. For someone who's so into literary works ..poetry, prose, any damn good thing that i come across, i get inspired..that's exactly what the songs and the poems and dialogues of UDAAN has done to me...read on, these are some of them (sorry couldn't get the english translation for all of them but I'm sure if you try, you'll understand the essence)

Chhoti-chhoti chhitrayi yaadein
Bichhi hui hain lamhon ki lawn par.
Nange pair unpar chalte-chalte
Itni door chale aaye
Ki ab bhool gaye hain –
Joote kahan utaare the.

Aedi komal thi, jab aaye the.
Thodi si naazuk hai abhi bhi.
Aur nazuk hi rahegi
In khatti-meethi yaadon ki shararat
Jab tak inhe gudgudati rahe.

Sach, bhool gaye hain
Ki joote kahan utaare the.
Par lagta hai,
Ab unki zaroorat nahin."

In Udaan, there's this wonderful song called Motumaster written by Anurag Kashyap. And there is a poem on motumaster's eating habits, qualities and possibilities, rendered by himself as far as I guess. Here is the poem and its English translation.

Har baal ki khaal ki yeh chhaal bhi kha jaaye
Iske haath padh jaaye toh mahine saal bhi kha jaaye
Kisi behaal ka bacha jo haal bhi haal kha jaaye
Bemaut marte mann ka yeh malaal kha jaaye
Lalu ka laal kha jaaye
Naxalbaari ki naal kha jaaye
Bachpan ka dhamaal kha jaaye
Budhape ki shaal kha jaye
Haya toh chodo behaya ki chaal bhi kha jaaye
aur agar parosa ja sake toh khayal bhi kha jaaye

He would even eat the covering of a hair's skin
If he gets, he'd eat even months and years
He'd eat even the remaining well-being of someone unwell
He'd even eat the sadness of an untimely dying heart
He can eat the laal of lalu (laal can mean red, the root word for lalu, it also means son)
He can eat even the barrels of naxalites (their guns)
He'd eat the fun of childhood
He'd eat the shawl of old-age
Leave aside shyness, he'd eat even the style of a shameless,
and if it's possible to put it on plate, he'll eat even a thought..

 last stanza of Azadiyaan...

Kahani khatam hai ya shuruaat hone ko hai
Subha nayi hai ye, ya phir raat hone ko hai

Aane wala waqt dega panahein
ya phir se milenge dorahe
Khabar kya, kya pata
